About {ME}

I love what I do.  I live and breath photography each and every day.

If you’ve looked around, you can probably see my passion since it flows from me.
I’m guessing that you’ve arrived here not so much out of plain curiosity but out of a desire to know more about this person behind Kate Linden Studios.

I’m honored that you’d like to get to know me better.  Truly!

A few of my favorite wedding things…

Breathtaking locations like UpNorth, along the coast of Michigan with its captivating blue waters and sandy shores, the romance of a southern plantation, the grace of an English style garden, a rustic barn and flourishing countryside, any sort of  winery replete with rows upon rows of gorgeous grapes, and the classic beautiful backyard soiree-these are just a few of my favorite places to capture your modern romance.  Of course, I have a special place in my heart for quaint little churches and huge cathedrals too but I *adore* natural light and am most pleased to have it at my disposal at my favorite places to find love in.

I also adore weddings that feature vintage touches like bird cage veils, books, gorgeous textures, feathers and marvelous fabrics.  My heart skips a beat when I see gorgeously executed details that have been lovingly handcrafted.  I’m all about creating things from scratch when the things available on the commercial market just won’t do!  So I positively *swoon* over letterpress, hand created maps, charming vignettes, and the infusion of your personality throughout your event.

My favorite element of a wedding is the love that you share.  It is the most beautiful and captivating part!  It’s so magical to see you come together in front of family & friends to join your hearts and lives together.  Just thinking about it makes me glowy with smiles!  Another thing I love about weddings is how my couples always seem to think deeply about their guests experience.  From planning the ceremony time for everyone’s comfort, to having yummy punch at the ceremony site to make sure everyone remains refreshed, my clients always seem to think of their guests needs and prepare lovely little surprises to delight them!  They delight me too because they always mean I get a chance to capture guests truly enjoying themselves as well as the fantastic details.

Aside from capturing your love story, my passion is for capturing the details that you have so lovingly chosen and created.  I believe that details are essential to the story of your celebration and truly capture the essence of your unique expression of love and personality.  Your bouquet, all the flowers, the shoes, the veil, the rings, the reception decor, the ceremony decor…these are all just the starting point for the details that set the tone for your modern romance.

A little more about Kate Linden…

Who is Kate Linden? Yes, who is Kate?? Kate is my (Jennifer Grant) ‘child’, metaphorically speaking. As every proud parent does, I (Jennifer) pour my heart and soul and life into my ‘child’, which for me is my business.
So why Kate Linden? You want more?! Okay! Kate is born of the perfect blend of Classic and Modern and the heart of her is PURE. Add that to Linden which is graceful and you’ve got this amazing mix of Classic, Modern with pure grace lying underneath. Pretty neat, huh?

Now that we’ve got that out of the way….How I became a photographer…or How photography found me…

The path that led me to photography began when I got married in 2001.  I discovered my passion for photography when my wedding photographer (who happens to be a good close friend of my mom’s) invited me to join her in photographing an upcoming wedding.  As a young, married college student, I jumped at the opportunity even though I was skeptical that I would be any good.  After all, I’d never used a professional camera–I’d only ever had a little 110mm camera!

She reassured me that I would do fine and she was right.  I not only managed to capture some great shots, I truly enjoyed every minute of it and found myself caught up in the day.  It was as if I was born to do this–I was seamlessly blending in with friends & family to capture the real essence of the couple.

As I worked with her more and more, my art improved substantially.  Then one day, she told me that I was going to go farther and do more and that I needed to go out on my own.  So I did.  Except I brought my husband on board because I knew I couldn’t do it alone.  And we became a well oiled machine, perfectly suited to capture all the life filled moments and details of a wedding day.

Dan recently took an extended break from photography so he could reignite his passion and during this time I began working on a complete revised brand to continue my passions growth.  In 2009, we will be available as a husband and wife team for a limited number of commissions.  I (Jennifer) will be available with other 2nd shooters for additional commissions.

The heart of what I do is all about serving my clients.

My work is rooted in the thought that I am a translator.  I translate your love, your passion, your personality and your joy into the language of light which is recorded on film.  Today, I work largely with digital technology because it offers my clients extraordinary quality and brilliance. Recently I have forayed back into the world of analog photography, incorporating 35mm film into my work. I have to say, I’m loving the results! There is just something so dreamy and marvelous about film that cannot be matched with digital. Both are amazing formats and I believe that together, they offer an outstanding blend of classic and modern.

I spend a substantial amount of time getting to know each and every one of my clients.  It’s probably the largest part of my process followed closely by the post processing of each individual image.

The heart of what I do is all about serving my clients.  I want to know you so I can capture you in a unique and relevant way whether it’s your engagement, senior pictures, newborn or wedding.  When I work with you, I spend a lot of time getting to know you and your style, personalities and preferences.  When the wedding day arrives, we’re like old friends which I love because it allows me to capture the day from the perspective of a friend but with the professional talent and everything that goes with that.

I’m not the kind of photographer you hire and forget about and don’t even recognize on your wedding day.  I immerse myself in the details so I can capture the nuances of everything.  First dances always get me, I find myself choked up with emotion–I just love how couples gaze deeply into each others eyes like there is no one else in the room.

I have been blessed with the  most amazing clients and I am grateful for every one.  I often come away from a wedding with this insight into who they are at the core and just feel so blessed to have been brought into the inner sanctum of their love.  It’s totally amazing and I am always in awe of what amazing people I have the honor of working with.

These are a few of my favorite things…

Many are items I LOVE while others are ideas for sessions..peek around and enjoy!
