So we get 100′s of spam comments here on the site and luckily, we run some good spam ‘search & destroy’ on the site via akismet and the built in love of WordPress so most of the time, you (as a visitor) never see them.
I just wanted to tell all the spam ‘trolls’ that have been visiting REPEATEDLY that their efforts are COMPLETELY WASTED. UTTERLY USELESS in fact.
What you don’t realize is that posting comments pretty much any blog with your link in it will not help your search engine ranking at all. period. Nada.
I did a little research and found that the tag “No-follow” has been around since 2005 and nearly all blogs have no-follow for comments links. The WordPress blogging platform has it set as an installation default and most other blog platforms also.
I realize this isn’t common knowledge and for most of us, it’s not important.
That being said, I think its worth a quick overview because I’m just tired of all the links to cialis and viagra and whatever else they continue to try to hock via my site. Some of this is simply irrelevant comments relating to my posts from either people or bots attempting to get links. There is only value in comments that are USEFUL and contribute to the site or the discussion. Spammy comments are NOT going to get clicked on, even if they somehow get through our spam filters. Who visiting my site would click some bunch of gibberish filled with drug links? I think the grand sum total would be ZERO.
I have no idea what spurs these spammers to continue wasting their time & efforts. It’s a fruitless effort.
Useful & real comments will always be posted on this site, however, if your comment is filled with gibberish, nonsense, half words & sentences and comes complete with several links, you can be sure it will be filtered into our spam box which is deleted regularly.
So if you’ve got an honest comment about something and a REAL link to something useful, feel free to make a genuine contribution. Otherwise, I suggest simply moving on to something that actually pays.
